The Reading Hack (9)

Dec 9, 2025

In this week’s curation, we have picked out reports with perspectives addressing an important facet of society that you might have missed. For instance, Ukraine’s worries of rebuilding its dwindling population when its young men are dying. Or the sudden tabling of reports by the Assam government on the little-known 1983 Nellie massacre.

As patrons of good journalism, I am sure you agree that one of its key roles is to take a keen look at society, analyse the undercurrents, and explain why it requires attention from us mere mortals.

Similarly, there’s another report that analyses the Hindutva mobilisation in Karnataka’s Mysuru, a bastion of the BJP-ally, JD(S).

Keeping with last week’s theme of investigation, we also have a report on a private university in Tripura run by a trust from Uttar Pradesh which is close to BJP.

Finally, we recommend a heart-rendering piece on the courageous fight of India’s smaller news portals and magazines in the Modi-era.
