Our January 24 newsletter curates articles which pique your curiosity over events hidden in plain sight. For example, a small-time producer who made millions dubbing south Indian movies and releasing them on Youtube.
I never understood why my English teachers always said that curiosity killed a cat; I am pretty sure the science teachers vehemently disagreed.
This week, our curation is a hat tip to journalists who asked important ‘whys’ and answered it for our benefit.
For instance, our first recommendation answers in detail on why Iran, a civilisational state with a strong relationship with India, is witnessing protests amidst a failing economy.
Our second curation is my personal favourite and an experiment with the format. It is a long and informative article written on X (formerly Twitter) about a North Indian distributor who made crores dubbing South Indian movies and releasing them on Youtube. He now finances multiple movies.
The third piece is interesting too; it tells why space insurance is gaining traction in India and is being talked about after the latest failure of the PSLV C-62 mission.
The remaining two pieces are serious journalistic explorations; one is on the 14-year-wait of a tribal Irular family for justice in Tamil Nadu and another on the urban heat island effect that India’s cities are transforming into.
I really feel that each of these reports is worth the weekend time you spend on it. Do write back letting us know if you felt otherwise.
